North Hobart 2009
An adventurous local builder placed his faith in us to design his urban infil house on a long narrow site in Hobart city. Privacy constraints and the physical proportions of the site generated the long narrow building form with offset walls, overlapping roofs and high level glazing. The owner’s desire for a low maintenance, high thermal performance building led us to utilise semi-commercial building materials to achieve a simple successful design.
We were pleased the builder religiously maintained the designed building form and layout even though we were not involved during the construction stage. The most satisfying aspect of the project is its ability to demonstrate that sensitive contemporary design works well in the context of an eclectic mix of traditional building styles.
