The Barn 2010
An immense challenge from the start, this project involved the conversion of a 4 x 6 metre 1800s stone barn into a residence. The barn had received little TLC since the 1800s and only one brave (insane!) builder was willing to work with us to rebuild it and transform it into the little treasure it is today.
Working with a very limited budget we reused every piece of timber removed from the original structure, retained all of the stone and ‘reinvented’ some of the original elements to incorporate them into the finished project. An open creative hand from the client was the catalyst for the creation of this work that received the national AIA Architecture Award For Small Project in 2010, thanks to a large degree to those ‘insane’ builders, Merlin Constructions.
